It’s not August any more, and that’s both good and bad.
On today’s ride it was 25 degrees and very windy. So windy in fact that I averaged between 10 and 12 mph heading out and about 22-24 mph on the way back with the same effort. I used Spinney’s double bag bootie technique and was remarkably comfortable for a while, and if it hadn’t been so miserably windy I might have stayed out longer than an hour.
I also realized that the headset had seized from my recent neglect and high mileage, so it’s definitely time to get the winter bike going so I can get the nice bike buffed out and keep it inside for the winter.
Riding outside has gotten much tougher, and that’s definitely the downside.
The upside is that I’ve been able to do some awesome activities without feeling like I’m neglecting my training.
First Dan and I went off roading. If you know Dan and have seen his Toyota FJ Cruiser you know it’s more than up to the task. We took the silver beast over some horribly intense Class IV roads in Central Vermont and had an absolute blast. So now of course I think I need a four wheeled off road vehicle so I can keep up.
There are plenty more where that came from and they’ll be featured in Part 2 later this week. I’ve also expanded my woodworking skillset which I’ll also elaborate on in the next installment.
For now I’m going to enjoy the fact that my ride for today is over, and hopefully the weather will be more accomodating later in the week.
