The snow has mostly receded and I’ve started to sneak in some consistent miles on the road. There’s still a lot of work to do, but it’s starting to come along.
I’ve got a couple irons in the fire for the blog and my overall race calendar for the season. The team kit is still very much on my mind so here are some ideas that are factoring into my design.
Somehow I found my way onto Tonic Fabrication’s page and discovered their pretty sweet collection of bikes. This one is their team ‘cross model, and I really like the unique color and minimal decal approach. They also have a mostly black kit which I think is bad ass.
Another tonic, and if you’ve been paying attention you’ve noticed a couple of dirt jumpers have made their way onto the blog. Still don’t own one, but I think it’s likely that I will soon as they’re helpful for skill building. The color scheme on this is pretty rad, and if you look closely it’s actually just raw tubes without paint. It reminds me of these color combinations:
The Land Rover Defender is coming back shown in two models above. Both colors are pretty rad- consistent with their roots but also modern. I’m not sure how I would put this sort of inspiration into a kit but I have been considering more blocky, simple simple designs with just 2 or 3 colors.
Alright, one more Rover for good measure.
It’s hard to consider a military paint scheme without mentioning a Speedvagen so here’s one that I’ve been studying recently.
While we’re talking Speedvagens there is this particular one which is more in keeping with the orange/yellow stripes I’ve been considering for a couple seasons.
Last up is a more traditional XC racing kit from 4Shaw in Australia. Their site and Facebook page are very cross country focused and their team uniform is a primarily black kit with a handful of very bright accents.
I’ll give those guys credit for their branding- it’s consistent and recognizable.
If this kit goes well (meaning it looks reasonably good, people like it and I’m not stuck with a box of excess inventory) then I’ll do another one so this is hardly the one and only kit I’ll run for Pro-35.
It’s not like I’m putting pressure on myself but I certainly am obsessing over it.
