It’s gone from being really rainy to really hot. And I’m liking the really hot.
I’ve opined about being injured, being unmotivated and overall unable to get out of my own way. That self-inflicted maelstrom has essentially kept me from riding at my best and feeling competitive. To top it off work has sucked, too.
The season is half-over, and with all of that said AND remarkably still some strong days out I’m sitting here with the strong desire to get things going the right direction. That effort started last week- I stopped drinking and cranked up the road mileage. The next round of races are coming up in August with this weekend’s Wildcat 50 and the Hampshire 100 on August 18th.
I’ve tweaked my diet.
I’ve tweaked my position.
I’ve been generally trying to be more “pro.”
At the risk of being an overbearing, self-absorbed endurance athlete I’m putting more focus on getting ready. more serious about competing. All of these thoughts slowly crystalized as I sat with my feet soaking in an ice cold kiddy pool recovering from a 40 mile ride in 96 degree heat. I sat there thinking about what I wanted to do this year and what I’ve been doing to get there. As I pondered I noticed the remarkably Disney-like characters adorning the bottom of the pool.
I didn’t know ducks needed swim masks, and I certainly didn’t know that they could carry cupcakes underwater. Maybe I was a little out of it because it was so hot- but I sure wasn’t complaining.
If needed, we can go for a ride, and you can beat the crap out of me. It would be awsome!
