I’m not really a fan of New Year’s Resolutions. If something is important enough to do then you don’t need an occasion to start it.
In some ways then it’s ironic that things are fitting into place in January. After deciding that I really wasn’t much a fan of skiing last winter I decided not to get a pass this year. So far I haven’t really missed much and I haven’t gotten up to the range to ski midweek either. And I can’t say I feel bad about it.
My winter program was a source of stress, but now we’re barreling through January and it’s been either ungodly cold or rainy and nasty. Of course weather here is pretty erratic so what has happened so far has very little to do with the way the rest of the season will unfold.
So far I’ve been riding the rollers a ton, and for some reason I’ve really been liking it. My fitness is good, I’m in the best January shape I’ve seen in years and my mental disposition is pretty positive.
The biggest change has been that I’ve been prioritizing some small woodworking projects. It’s been a hell of a lot of fun, and I’ve really enjoyed building all of my Christmas presents again this year. Two weeks ago I made the Überwintern frames.
Last week I made a couple of cutting boards out of some black cherry hardwood boards I got after Christmas. Our cutting board had gotten pretty beat up so this was a nice upgrade and it’s the first thing I’ve made that I can use on a regular basis. Most of the stuff I’ve just given away because I enjoy building it more than I need to keep it.
So somehow, as if I didn’t already have enough to do I’ve gotten myself into another time consuming activity and people are asking me to build things for them, and that’s pretty cool.
You can look forward to the blog getting a bit of a face lift later this week as I’m enlisting some professional help. I really like Steve Tilford’s approach of talking about what’s on his mind- including construction projects, working on his car, his races, commentary on current events in the sport and anything else that is on his mind. I’ll be heading somewhat in that direction here as I think it better suits who I am and this is after all my blog.
And I might even be able to get the damn paypal plugin to work for WordPress so I can put together a shop for folks to get t-shirts, kits and stickers.
Looking forward to the updates. Did you part ways with your divide?
The new layout template has been purchased and I’ve got the paypal plugin for the shop as well. I’m not 100% sure how that will all fit together. The quiver is still being sorted out, but yes, the Divide has a new home.
