So what’s with all the car stuff?
Since driving my friend’s Subaru BRZ I’ve been fixated on cars. I’ve always been predisposed to older VWs, RX7′s and all things Porsche, but that test drive just exacerbated the situation.
The BRZ was small, fast, rear wheel drive and had ever worse visibility than the tC…so other than being fun to drive really didn’t work for me as a one car daily driver (to be fair to the owner he has other vehicles for more practical purposes). But still the seeds of discontent had been sewn.
So through the fall I ogled, obsessed, researched, analyzed and debated the merits of any number of different possible solutions. Through that research I started paying more attention to Mazda, and the first Mazda that comes to mind for me is the RX7. The one shown below features a dual Wankel rotary engine and was raced on the Bonneville salt flats to try to break the land speed record.
Mazda is also the only Japanese auto maker to ever win the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the 787b shown below. The 787b also featured a rotary engine, and if you’re bored check out the youtube clips of that car howling around the race course.
Of course you won’t see any 787b’s on the street, but you might see a Mazdaspeed3 like the one shown below. This one has some nice, subtle tweaks to make is stand out from stock.
This Speed3 shown below has zero modifications from stock aside from now having metal license plates. And yes this is the reason for my Mazda fixation because I’m totally stoked to own it.
Was it Billy’s car last September that you are talking about?:)
It took me a while to figure out who Billy was, but yes.
